Full Lineup Of Split Festival Announced
By Stephen Noble on August 2, 2010 in Music
The full lineup for Sunderland’s Split Festival has been announced, with Maximo Park headlining, along with The Futureheads and Frankie and the Heartstrings on the bill, making this an unmistakably North East talent fest.
The festival, hosted at Ashbrooke Sports Club, will be on the 25-26 of September with the aim of an 80/20 ‘split’ of local bands and top national performers, with a Battle of the Bands in early September to find some undiscovered local acts.
Listed at £20 a day ticket and £32.50 for a full weekend, you can get in early (before 31 August) to get the price down to £15 a day or £25 for the weekend, and you get the music plus circus entertainers, stand up comics and beer tents to keep you motivated and gassy.
Ross Millard of The Futureheads, who also helped to organise the acts, said: “Something like this could really help get some kind of scene going again [in Sunderland].
“That’s how The Futureheads got started, by going down to events that Sunderland University had put on and seeing what could be done being like ‘Oh this is happening, let’s do something ourselves’.”
The organisers have even put together a handy little radio section to the site so you can have a full peruse of the bands playing.
Festival Chairman Rob Deverson said: “The festival has had a successful start and we want to build on this in future years.
“We have some great bands in Sunderland just now and want to continue the tradition of unearthing local talent and giving it a chance to be seen by wider audiences at our annual festival.”
