The second Split Festival, featuring the likes of Maximo Park, The Futureheads, Detroit Social Club and Frankie & The Heartstrings, has been and gone, seeming to show a glimpse of things to come.
It’s no mystery that the North East has suffered from a lack of festivals, and while Evolution on Newcastle’s Quayside is filling some of the gap, Sunderland’s Split Festival is adding another avenue to get your gigs off.
We spoke to Martyn McFadden about the success of this year and how it might go in the next few years, Detroit Social Club’s Drummer David Green and Frankie from Frankie & The Heartstrings about performing to a home crowd.
