Heaton Arts Festival Preview
For those of you who find yourselves either stuck for something to do this weekend, or otherwise just in need of some delightfully cultural enjoyment, it would truly be remiss of us not to point you in the vague direction of the Heaton Arts Festival.
“But what is it?” You shriek. Well, you eager little house mouse, pipe down and I’ll tell you.
In their own words, it’s “an opportunity for local artists, musicians and other creative people to link with local enterprises and community groups to celebrate our thriving and diverse community”. In short, that means a Heaton wide carousel of gigs, exhibitions and interactive workshops that might just make your summer.
There’s a number of standout little soirées, including…
A very, very tasty little gig on offer at the little know Northumberland Hussars in Heaton (Sackville terrace, just off Chillingham Road). Starting tonight at 8pm you can see Nadine Shah, Retriever, Cult Image and The Bromista Technique completely free of charge. Simply joyous, I’m sure you’ll agree.
For those of you who’ve ever spotted a feather duster just laying around and thought “I bet I could use this for sexual enchantment” (and, let’s face it, that’s most of us) there’s the Casa Bellini Burlesque Workshop. The first of which takes places at the unholy hour of 10am on a Saturday. Bring a big coat and book in advance.
There’s also some poetry in The Chillingham, Hayley Hare’s ‘Home Sweet Home’ instillation, hight tea and musical refreshments with The Blitz Sisters and, brace yourself for this, and free edible furniture workshop.
