News: POP SEX LTD Take Ajimal To The Lit & Phil
By Adam Clery on February 14, 2012 in Music
As if the blossoming romance between surreal, melancholic songster Ajimal, and the double denim, ultra-trendy recording outfit Pop Sex Ltd didn’t feel strange enough, they’ve just announced the kind of shindig that really will make you flip your lid.
As we’ve mentioned previously, mostly in this little write up we did of his forthcoming single, Ajimal is something worth getting excited about. Now with the reaching power of Frankie & The Heartstrings’ label POP SEX LTD behind him, his first single Footnote To Love (Part 1) is scheduled to drop through our doors on the 19th of March and, to commemorate the occasion, they’ve announed the customary single launch. At the Lit and Phil no less.
No, you read that right. Where us mere mortals would consider the Cluny or Independent tailor-made for such an event, this time we’ll be strolling down to Newcastle’s Literature and Philosophical Society, the largest independent library outside of London. (Whilst you might think this a somewhat strange venue for a musical misadventure, we recently reviewed Euros Child show at the same venue.)
Don’t just take my word for it though, read this here press release on the subject that essentially does most of my job for me.
“POP SEX LTD are happy to announce that our first non Frankie & The Heartstrings release is the rather amazing ‘Footnote to Love [Part One]’ from Ajimal. What started off as an experimental alt. folk recording project for Newcastle born Fran O’Hanlon has begun to blossom into something quite remarkable in the budding months of 2012.
Ajimal’s first single, ‘Footnote to Love [Part One]’, which surfaced online towards the end of January, will be released on Frankie & the Heartstrings’ Pop Sex Ltd. label on March 19th. The gorgeous, partly acoustic track meanders through estuaries of hollow, fluttering vocal loops, stabbing guitars and twinkling keys, pursued all the while by Fran’s tender, uplifting voice. The track, which will form part of Fran’s eagerly anticipated, ‘Childhood EP’, was produced by Mick Ross and features guest spots from Little Comets man, Rob Coles, as well as Martin Longstaff of The Lake Poets.
POP SEX LTD in association with Independent Live, are pleased to announce that Ajimal’s single launch party will take place on Monday 19th March at Newcastle’s Literature & Philosophical Society. Expect a celebratory evening of hauntingly emotive music, ghostly atmospherics and a whole host of special guest appearances in these intimate surroundings. ‘Footnote…’ is available on a run of extremely limited edition handmade CDs. 100 tickets have been released for the launch gig, with 50 allocated for our limited ticket/CD bundles.
Support comes from Nadine Shah who is set to unleash her stunning debut album, produced by Ben Hillier (Blur, Elbow, Villagers) who fittingly describes Shah as a cross between PJ Harvey, Shirley Bassey and Edith Piaf.”
Not only that, but you can look forward to reading a rather meaty interview with Ajimal in the March issue of NARC magazine. Opening question; “how the hell did all this happen?”
Tickets are on sale 9am Friday 17th February, priced £5 (Ltd. Ticket / CD bundle £7) available from www.netickets.net / also available in person from HotRats Sunderland / Reflex, Newcastle
