Preview: Sexual Objects

By Jon Corbett on March 12, 2012 in Music, NARC.

After a lazy drizzle of releases over the past couple of years, the full second length album from Edinburgh’s Sexual Objects is finally about to land. The band, a project belonging to songsmith Davy Henderson, is best known for its work within such legendary Scottish indie combos Fire Engines and Nectarine No. 9.

Despite their bawdy name, Henderson’s latest new outfit are raunchy in a different way, sharing with his past bands a fondness for the sleazy and debauched side of the rock ‘n’ roll tracks, coming on strong with bluesy Velvet Underground/Lou Reed nods and winks.

With bountiful pop ditties, Herculean choruses and endearing song titles, Sexual Objects have shaken off early smirks and grins from a demanding media to create something both nostalgic and exciting.

The band play at the Star & Shadow Cinema in Newcastle on Friday 16th March, the gig will start at 9pm after a screening of Fornando Arrabal’s 1970’s Oedipal screenplay Viva La Muerte.

The Sexual Objects will perform at the Star & Shadow Cinema on Friday 16th March.
