Preview: Clock Opera @ The O2/Independent
Clock Opera have become firm favourites in the region after a handful of storming gigs last year. They return with two gigs in the region this month – at O2 Academy in Newcastle on Wednesday 11th and at Independent, Sunderland on Thursday 12th April.
The band’s epic soundscapes, expansive yet understated, are full of twinkly haunting atmospherics, fusing samples and live instrumentation in a sometimes bewildering, but always inventive, way. Their debut album Ways To Forget, full of eclectic avant pop at its finest, is released on 23rd April via Moshi Moshi/Island Records and is certain to become one of those ‘album of the year’ favourites. If reports of their live performances are to be believed, these gigs will surely make it onto your ‘gig of the year’ list too.
