Preview: Bleached @ The Cluny 2

By Glen Keogh on May 21, 2012 in Music

Banana Hill are making a bit of a name for themselves as promoters in a music scene which could do with a bit of a kick up the backside. A few weeks ago they miraculously managed to fit Eagulls and their singer’s ego into the small upstairs room at the Dog and Parrot and on Monday 21st May they’re bringing LA sisters Bleached to the Cluny 2.

Their sun-kissed washed-out guitar pop is what long Cadillac drives in California should sound like. We’ll have to wait and see whether it evokes the same aural sensation in a drizzly Ouseburn valley but I’ll bet money the duo manage to put a smile on your face.

Live, their performance can still be as visceral and frenetic as the shows which drew many to see their previous outfit Mika Miko but Bleached are altogether more… cheery.

However, don’t let their new sugar sweetness fool you because there’s about as much chance of you perching your arse in the Cluny 2’s elaborate seating area during their set as there is me playing for Newcastle (career stats: Heaton Hawks app 1, goals 0).

Support on the night comes from Glasgow’s Paws who offer a similar slice of gravelly guitar-led pop and Newcastle newcomers Lunn Poly.

Bleached, Paws and Lunn Poly play the Cluny 2 on Monday 21st May. Doors 7.30pm, tickets £6 adv
