If you’re a fan of hip-hop, breakbeat and jungle then you’ve probably noticed that there isn’t exactly a surplus of nights in Newcastle which cater to your needs. The odd event comes along and then you’re left waiting again, chomping at the bit for the next chance to get down to your favourite tunes in a decent venue.
Enter Amen Brother, Newcastle’s newest club night featuring all the best in hip-hop, soul, jungle, drum’n’bass and breakbeat and located in the friendly, intimate surroundings of World Headquarters, one of the North East’s coolest nightspots.
Founder James Scott and his fellow Amen Brothers Jake “Spilla” Rowland and Ryan “Swamp Dogg” Dovenor actually met at Worldies and James describes it as the “sweetest little venue in the whole of the toon” so it was almost inevitable that their nights would be held there. The guys claim their nights are “unlike any others in town” and that despite a solid foundation in drum’n’bass, breakbeat and hip-hop, there is always space to mix things up and include other genres, this time the emphasis will be on soul, but in the future they are looking to include garage, reggae and more.
Amen Brother are well on their way to making a name for themselves in Newcastle with the hope of turning their nights into a monthly event split over two rooms with two distinct styles. Get down to Worldies on Friday the 1st of June and try it for yourself.
Amen Brother’s nights are one of a kind in Newcastle at the moment and deserve all the attention they are sure to get over the coming months. It’s not every week that a great new clubnight opens up in Newcastle, so get down on June 1st and lend your support.
