Preview: Slow Show and Amy Holford @ The Head of Steam
By Glen Keogh on June 7, 2012 in Music
As far as early gigs go, they don’t come much more impressive than a performance from Manchester based act The Slow Show. They’re already held in such high esteem that the BBC recently asked them to perform at their Radio 2 In Session show supporting Elbow at Manchester Cathedral.
If that intrigues you then you have the chance to see them in the far humbler (but much cosier) surroundings of Newcastle’s Head of Steam this Friday the 8th June.
Radio 4 listeners, and here at KYEO we like to think that’s what you are, might have heard the five piece perform on Loose Ends on June 2nd so it seems the group are on the cusp of big things. Their new EP ‘Brother’ distances the band from their influences Tom Waits and Bob Dylan and offers a polished, string filled affair which bears a strong resemblance to The National.
For live performances they are often joined by their brass section and extra vocalists so seeing as this gig is one of only six they currently have penned in for the rest of the year, it’s close to receiving an enviable “DO NOT MISS” tag from us.
Support comes from rising North-East starlet Amy Holford and Mancunian acoustic troubadour Cavan Moran.
The Slow Show, Amy Holford and Cavan Moran play the Head of Steam in Newcastle on Friday 8th June. Tickets are £5
