Preview: Oxjam Acoustic @ The Central Bar
Since the first Oxjam event in 2006 over 3,000 gigs have taken place nationwide, raising more than £1.5 million for Oxfam. The North East has had its fair share of barnstorming live performances in aid of the charity in recent years but unfortunately you’ll have to wait until October for the Oxjam Newcastle Takeover festival.
In the meantime, a series of monthly acoustic nights known as Oxjam Acoustic Central will commence from Wednesday 13th June at The Central Bar in Gateshead.
As with all the best things in life, it’s initially free but some money will have to change hands afterwards. It’s up to the audience to decide whether they think the bands are worth £1, £2 or £3 and of course, the cash raised will go to Oxfam.
Local artists James Allan & Co, Matt Stalker & Fables and Ben Watson are confirmed to play the first gig which organiser Jon Barker says is “all about showcasing some of the best local artists and at the same time raising money and awareness for Oxjam. Everyone who comes along will not only have a good time, they’ll also be helping to change lives around the world.”
