PREVIEW: Unsane & Big Business

By Lee Fisher on July 2, 2012 in Music, NARC.

New York City in the late 80’s was one hell of a place if you like your music noisy, jagged and fucked up.

Alongside the legendary likes of Pussy Galore and Sonic Youth and the thriving hardcore scene were Unsane, whose early releases took the ethos and attitude of punk and worked in the noise and attack of metal bands like Prong and Helmet to come up with something spectacularly abrasive and intense.

Nearly 25 years later – and with personal tragedies and a lengthy hiatus behind them – Unsane are still at it, now signed to the none-more-punk Alternative Tentacles label and touting their new album Wreck, which shows no audible signs of them mellowing out. Unsane fetch up in the UK this month for a short set of dates supported by Big Business (half of whom provide the Melvins rhythm section).

The tour hits Trillians in Newcastle on Friday 6th July and it’s going to be as sweaty and bludgeoning as always.
