PREVIEW: PETRO @ The Tower
By Mark Kelly on August 2, 2012 in Art & Design
Tower Art Gallery, the newest cultural addition to Ouseburn Valley’s melting pot of art, music, and literature, will soon be opening it’s first official solo show.
Having recently taken up residence in Upton House – formerly a boarding school in the 30’s – the Tower Art Gallery has brought a fresh approach to the Newcastle art scene. Focussing largely on contemporary street art and graffiti, the gallery couldn’t have chosen a more exciting or fitting show to open its doors with.
‘Age 39 3/4′ is an insight into the nomadic life of British born artist PETRO, who has been wielding the spray paints and stencils (as well as a giant bunny head) in a career spanning 25 years. Following shows in London, Amsterdam and Stockholm, the British born artist will be bringing his exploration of graffiti letterform to Newcastle for the first time on August 2nd.
Art lovers can be sure to expect a wide range of stunning visuals from captivating pattern repetition to the residential installation pieces, galactic 3D sculptures, drawings, paintings, prints and garments
