PREVIEW: Damien Jurado
Damien Jurado has an impressive musical pedigree having released twelve albums over the past fifteen years on such renowned record labels as Sub Pop and Secretly Canadian.
Recently, since teaming up with fellow folky Richard Swift as producer, Jurado has been pushing the boat out a little, making more diverse records than you might expect from a key player in the modern Americana movement. He comes to Newcastle’s Cluny on Friday 17th August for a joint headline show with North Carolina’s Megafaun, who garnered critical acclaim for last year’s self-titled third album. Like a radio friendly Akron/Family they combine a range of world music influences in their psych-folk sound. Promoters Cosmos and The Kids Are Solid Gold (based in Teesside but increasingly finding a name for themselves in Newcastle) seem to have a knack of bringing top bills to the area and this is another great example. Get your tickets while you can.
Damien Jurado and Megafaun play The Cluny, Newcastle on Friday 17th August.
