PREVIEW: The Battle on the River Tyne

Some art you come across and wonder why? And if indeed it can be called art. Then again other times you stumble across a gem that you just want to take home.
This is the case I have found with the latest addition to the Baltic shop. In store they have a limited edition print of acclaimed LA based husband and wife team Kozyndan. They have released an exclusive print of their North East inspired work The Battle on the River Tyne.
The artwork is based on the panorama of Newcastle and Gateshead cityscapes and Quayside as well as some of the regions iconic landmarks including the Tyne bridge, the sage and the Baltic. The work was originally exhibited as an animation at the Baltic as part of the 2006 exhibition, Spank the Monkey.
What I find amusing is the anime style twist the piece has and no matter where you look there is something bonkers going on. From the two giants robots fighting in the river Tyne to the angel of the north flying like an aeroplane. It captures small details of Tyneside, such as one of the robots wearing a Newcastle strip, but is full of quirks including a giant pink rabbit.
The limited edition print is now available at The Baltic store for £100 and available online
