PREVIEW: Iceni
On Wednesday 22nd August The Cluny once again plays host to a night which showcases the rich textures of the Tyne’s music scene, with each act bringing a different subtly to the gig.
The recently formed Bonasi Five, who cultivate elements of indie rock, will open the show; they churn out a fresh set of crafted songs that escape the cliché of current indie music. A change of instrumentation, stripped down to guitar and voice, will precede Miss Danby & The What, who take the stage next.
She possesses an ability to suspend an audience with a Janis Joplin-esque voice and a batch of songs that are energetically compulsive. Headlining the night is Iceni, a softly angelic jazzy/pop trio, whose music is cleverly arranged around beautiful piano lines, guaranteeing to dispel any gloom that you may bring to the evening with optimistic songs that would make Kate Nash quiver in her boots. A great showcase night of organic talent.
Iceni, Miss Danby & The What and Bonsai play The Cluny, Newcastle on Wednesday 22nd August.
