You heard it through the grapevine, the Dog and Parrot one of Newcastle’s established bars is launching a new soul and Motown club night on August 31st.
This all came about after four friends realised instead going out they were staying in on a weekend listening to their records because they had grown weary of Newcastle’s nightlife, as no where played Motown or soul, so they took it upon themselves to create their own night.
Inspired by the great response off venues who showed much interest, when they went looking for a place to hold the club night, they pushed on with plans to put on the night Grapevine so named due to it’s Motown connections and ties in with their “Hear it at the Grapevine” tag line, catchy.
Fresh from refurbishment the Dog and Parrot felt the right place for them to hold it and now it is where Northern soul fans will be able to dance the night away at the new fortnightly soul club night.
On the playlist will be a blend of 50’s and 60’s soul but you will be able to here the songs you love as the and expect the likes of Otis Redding, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Dion & The Belmonts, Gene Chandler, Jackie Wilson and Gloria Jones to be played.
It aims to bring people together along with the culture of old school soul from the images, the sounds, and the feeling of the music. The launch night starts from 9pm on August 31st, a date for your diary, and the will run through until 2am giving you five hours to dance the night away on the new hardwood dance floor. Tickets for the night will be £3 on the door.
After the launch night the night will run every first and third Friday of every month. So if you miss the launch night the nest two will be taking place on September 7th and September 21st.
