PREVIEW: The Unthanks @ The Tyneside Cinema
Venues in Newcastle and Stockton welcome back Mercury Prize nominees The Unthanks as they perform a live soundtrack to the Tyneside Cinema commissioned film Songs From The Shipyards.
Taking place at Newcastle’s Tyneside Cinema on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 and Stockton’s ARC on Saturday 20, Songs From The Shipyards tells the story of the rise and fall of the shipbuilding industry in the North East, the film was made by internationally celebrated filmmaker Richard Fenwick. Archive footage spanning the past one hundred years illustrates in microcosm the highs and lows of Britain’s industrial journey. Intense personal stories and The Unthanks’ haunting live accompaniment combine to present a moving and memorable live experience, one that strives to remember and celebrate our rich heritage in a unique way.
The Unthanks also release selected songs from the film’s soundtrack in early November on an album entitled Diversions Vol. 3: Songs From The Shipyards. The last in a three part series of releases over the last 12 months, the final part of the band’s prolific output further cements their place as one of the region’s most loved storytellers and music makers.
Last year, the inaugural performance and film screening at the Tyneside sold out in a matter of hours, so we’d advise you to get your tickets quick smart.
