PREVIEW: Goat @ The Star & Shadow
By Michael Hann on October 18, 2012 in Music
Swedish psychedelic, afro funk in Newcastle? Nope, no need to change the channel, the news flash is that local promoters Leave Me Here are bringing the band Goat to the Star & Shadow Cinema on Saturday 20th October, as part of their UK début.
Since the release of their Goatman 7” the septet have been wowing the likes of BBC 6′s Lauren Laverne and John Doran of The Quietus.
The band will spread their voodoo vibes alongside local support Beauty Pageant, who for the uninitiated play a potent mix of chaotic guitar, wailing saxophone, crazed vocals and percussion which is reminiscent of classic new wave such as Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and James Chance and The Contortions rocking out their most equally demented and sparse form.
Bringing up the rear of the bill are newly formed local noise, psych rock band Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, who will also be playing their first gig on these virgin shores. Little is known about them and what has been unearthed remains shrouded in secrecy and rumour. To learn more, well…you’ll just have to turn up to find out for yourselves. If you dare.
Goat, Beauty Pageant and Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs play the Star & Shadow Cinema in Newcastle on Saturday 20th October.
