PREVIEW: Efterklang

By Emma Howe on October 19, 2012 in Music

After debuting fourth album Piramdia to a sold out Sydney Opera House earlier in the year, Danish trio Efterklang appear to have found a confidence and comfort in performing their remote and gratifyingly sparse collection of tracks with integrated orchestral projects.

The three-piece will become a six-piece for one evening at The Sage Gateshead on Tuesday 23rd October, with the addition of Peter Broderick (Piano), Katinka Fogh Vindelev (Choir) and a special drummer yet to be announced.

This is an opportunity to experience indie rock/pop with breathless ambition and could be a splendid introduction for many to the grandiose possibilities of popular music. Having recently reviewed Piramida myself, I fully expect all of Efterklang’s lovelorn, magically lingering atmospherics to rise high above the shell of Hall One and take them a step further towards becoming masters of their craft, whilst enticing an audience to join them on their journey. Collaborations all round then.

Efterklang & Northern Sinfonia perform at The Sage, Gateshead on Tuesday 23rd October.
